Our Story

John Burgess Photography is based in the Namoi Valley rural town of Wee Waa, North West New South Wales providing portrait, wedding and event photography services state wide in NSW and Southern Qld.
I have often been asked why I decided to produce 'Cotton Country Kids'. Following is a summary of my reasoning.

Being located in a rural, agricultural based region, mental health is a serious, ongoing concern, particularly during the long, difficult periods of drought and the difficulty in accessing assistance with and prevention of mental health problems is a major hurdle in our ability to care for our community. Our aim is to provide this much needed service locally with the funds raised through the sale of the 'Cotton Country Kids' 2019 Fine Art Calendar.

It's through the ongoing commitment and contributions of community members and local business, both large and small and the drive of community based organisations, that our small rural town has derived many of its facilities and services for the benefit of our community.

With funds raised through social events and occasions, many developments have been established and bear testament to the commitment of the people of our district in providing for our own needs.

Thank you to the numerous people who assisted in the production of 'Cotton Country Kids', particularly the thirty wonderful local country children aged from three to eleven years of age who participated in the shoots.

All proceeds from the purchase of 'Cotton Country Kids' will support the provision of the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program in our local region by our primary charity partner, the Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health

The University of Newcastle’s Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health provides leadership in rural and remote mental health research, working closely with rural communities and our valued partners to provide evidence -based service design, delivery and education in NSW. The Centre focuses on the following three areas: the promotion of good mental health and the prevention of mental illness; developing the mental health system to better meet the needs of people living in rural and remote regions; and understanding and responding to rural suicide.
